Compress an image to 100 kB

100 kB is selected. Pick another preset, or type a size, when the form asks for something else.

Drop in a JPG, PNG, or WebP. The photo is compressed in this browser, not uploaded, and there is no account. The download stays at or just under 100 kB. The same control also hits 20 kB through 350 kB, or a size you type, up to 20 MB.

How to hit a file-size limit

  1. Drop in a JPG, PNG, or WebP, or browse for one.
  2. Leave 100 kB selected, or pick another preset. Switch the unit if the limit is in megabytes.
  3. Compress. The page shrinks the pixel dimensions when quality alone cannot get there, then keeps the highest quality that fits.
  4. Hold “compare” to see the original. Download the file when the byte count is under the limit.

Sizes use 1,024 bytes per kB, the same count a computer shows in the file properties. The download is aimed at or just under your number, so an upload that rejects “over 100 kB” has room.

Questions

How do I compress an image to 100 kB? Leave the 100 kB preset selected, compress, and download. The file is counted as 1,024 bytes per kB and kept at or just under that limit.

Is the image uploaded? No. Compression uses the canvas in your browser. Closing the tab drops the file from memory.

What if the photo is already small enough? It is not recompressed. Download the original as it is.

Does the picture look worse? Lossy compression throws away detail to save bytes. A modest cut, such as a few megabytes down to 200 kB, usually stays clear. A 20 kB target on a large photo will look softer, because that is what the size allows.

Can I do several images? One at a time. Start over, or drop the next file, when you need another.

How large a file can I open? Up to about 25 MB. Past that, phone and laptop memory is the limit, not this page.
